That's the way I like it
Toward the beginning of Little Women, one of the March sisters comes home, unloads her burdens and tells her siblings that she's just seen something she "liked," a good deed she witnessed out on the town. That phrasing "something I liked" -- I like it.
I recently saw something I liked. One day after work I was standing on a packed train. A couple of stops into the ride, a lean woman with a stroller came aboard. Her child was sleeping, but the woman looked like she hadn't slept well in months. I hear that happens.
Without ceremony, a man seated near the door stood and gestured to her to take his seat, which she accepted with a sweet and tired smile. She settled onto the bench and looked with absorption at her baby, who hadn't stirred at all.
