Huddled up
Most of you know I'm generally not that into football. But lately I've seen a couple of games that managed to arrest my attention.
First of all, we had the Cowboys/Seahawks game this weekend. Damnation was that a good game (and yes, I was rooting for the Cowboys in this instance). At one point I actually rose from my seat in excitement (and sank in anguish shortly thereafter). That doesn't happen too often, ladies and gentlemen.
And then we had tonight's big contest between Ohio State and Florida. At the outset I wasn't cheering for either side. I was merely curious to see who'd win (my viewing companion swore he was similarly ambivalent, but I maintain he was rooting for Florida the whole time). However, after Ohio scored that touchdown on the first play of the game, I discovered I was pulling for them.
Poor, poor Ohio players. They did try, but Florida's defense was just too spectacular (and Ohio's too weak). I stayed with them to the end and shed a little tear ... inside.
Does this mean the Grammarian is turning into a football fan? Unlikely. But at least I sort of see what all the fuss is about now.
