Reflective moment

Someone sent me a link to a review of John Grogan's Marley & Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog today, and I think I'm going to have to buy the book. Hell, if just the review can make me cry, it's worth exploring.

This quote struck me particularly:

"That's when I realized that there's a bigger story here ... (about) how families bring these animals into their homes, and try to shape the animals to their will. But at the same time, the animals are shaping us a little bit and helping turn us into the people we become," says Grogan.

It's so true. I've changed in so many ways since young Simon came along in 2000. He's helped teach me responsibility, selflessness and patience, and he's given me the joy of caring for an innocent being who depends on me. In exchange for food, water, toys and attention, he gives me comfort, love, laughter and acceptance (most of the time).

Anyway, just feeling a little sappy at the moment. If you live with animals, why don't you take a moment to hug them and say thanks?
