Cat power

I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to lure a mama cat and her kittens to a safe place in my apartment complex's garage. I'd found them hanging out under the cars when I got home from work, and I foresaw terrible things happening to them once people started leaving for work in the morning. Bringing them into my apartment wasn't an option, and I'm a little scared of animal control after the opossum incident, so I figured the best I could do was help get them through the night (mama was painfully thin, as were her kids).

I cooed at them, assured them I was their friend, told them my cat, Simon Sgt. Def Nip Shaddock, would be proud of them if they accepted my help. The kittens fled, and mama cat just kept her distance and blinked at me.

I raced upstairs for some food and water. When I got back down to the garage they resumed their plaintive mewing. I announced that I came bearing gifts, but still they wouldn't budge. So I created a trail of cat food that led into this recessed storage area tucked away in the corner of the garage. After leaving the food and water bowls inside, I retraced my steps to the elevators where I could spy on them without causing them undue panic. It took them awhile, but eventually mama and her kittens reunited at the food court. It warmed my heart a little to see them sharing.

Tomorrow I'll see about getting them a spot at Operation Kindness, one of the coolest places on Earth.
