Hey little girl, want a petri dish?

Before I sit down with my biology book for the night, I present the following:

As most of you know, Harvard's president has suggested that innate differences between the sexes may explain the dearth of women in top science jobs. This story broke months ago, and frankly, I hadn't given much thought to it since. However, I recently ran across this opinion piece in a local newspaper and wondered where the public stands on the issue. You may have to register with the site in order to view the column, but it only takes a minute to do so (and really, doesn't everyone have some piece of personal information about you by now anyway?).

My feelings on the matter are mixed. On the one hand, I firmly believe social conditioning plays a far larger role in students' academic pursuits than biology. But I do think she has a good point about feminism being an untouchable and sometimes knee-jerk school of thought that often doesn't accept criticism with much grace.

Please feel free to share your opinions.
